Description
Norwegian: habitational name from any of several farmsteads so named from Old Norse mork ‘forest pasture’ or mark ‘field’, ‘land’. Swedish (Markén): probably an ornamental name from mark ‘land’ + the adjectival suffix -én, from Latin -enius.
